Ripple Effect Over Food Costs Send Prices Through The Roof

Concerns over food costs cause concern.

You do not have to be a rocket scientist to know the cost of everything has gone up from gas to utilities. The profit margins for grocery stores and restaurants can be felt from both ends as many retailers have shaved down profit, and some have changed product lines. Retailers are feeling the crunch from a job market that costs them more than ever, the lack of employees and regulation has not helped matters at all.

What can you do, as a business owner or as a consumer?

Outside of changing to a different product, there are a few things you can do. Changing ingredient brands could save money, but be careful because the quality and taste could be changed too. Some industry experts say to gradually raise the prices of soft drinks because the profit margins are good, but the last thing anyone wants is a customer that gets upset and does not come back. Charging extra for expensive items, like cheese on sandwiches to offset the price is common ground, but in a restaurant setting there are other ways. Consider the fast or convenient ingredients you are using in your restaurant, would it be cheaper to make them from scratch? Would it be cheaper to patty your own hamburgers? These are questions only you can answer.

Saving at the grocery for your house

Unless you have the time to dedicate to it, hunting coupons and driving around the grocery store to another store is not practical at all. Some grocery stores have rewards programs, but if you use a credit card and pay it off at the end of each month, the cash-back rewards offered by some carriers can also help you. Getting groceries delivered is expensive, try to find a few hours in your schedule even if it is once a month, and go load up. Items you use often, check to see if you can save in bulk. Find a deep freezer and load up when items are on sale. That convenient squeeze jar of mayo is cheaper if you buy it by the jar. Larger families can cook in bulk and freeze the leftovers.

These items will save you money in the long haul.

I personally do not buy cheap kitchen tools because the name-brand ones last longer and perform better. If you are an avid cook, it behooves you to have decent equipment. I have tried it both ways. Dehydrating your own seasonings is not only healthier, it makes your food taste better. I vacuum seal meats and leftovers because no one wants a freezer-burned steak, The fruit squeezer makes for healthier juices and the air fryer is a convenient thing to have around. Hokegeek blenders are professional grade, and if you like smoothies, you will want to add this to your kitchen as soon as possible. We found you some deals with our merchants that sell in the Metroplex Marketplace, and have added them here.
